Mike Ricketts and Arthur Bellinger were convincing winners of the Broadway and Smith Gruesomes Cup in the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club.

Their nett score of 66 saw them three shots clear of Graham Edgell and Barry Dugmore, with John Bendle and Nick Foxwell third, with nett 71.

After qualifying in eighth position in the Guerwyn Thomas Trophy, Ken Tucker and Cyril Blacker came good in the knock-out stages to eventually lift the trophy with a 3&2 win over Terry Button and Bob Smith. In the Semi-Finals, Tucker and Blacker had beaten Foxwell and Phil Moody, while Button and Smith had overcome Bill Lester and Frank Reeves.

The January Medal competition was played in frosty conditions and on temporary greens, but it obviously suited Geoff Hallett, who came in first with a nett 65. He needed countback, however, to deny Tucker another first place, while Martin Cuer was third, with a nett 66.

Seniors’ Captain, John Appleton, was in fine form in the Charity Trophy, linking up with Ricketts to take the medal with an impressive nett score of 54.
