SARAH Hynds has won the Ladies Club Championship at Orchardleigh Golf Club.
It is a two day competition which this year was held on Saturday, 18th and Sunday, 19th July. Both rounds were played in hot, dry and sunny conditions with plenty of run on the ball, which reflected in some very good scoring and reduction of handicaps.
On Saturday some excellent scores were brought in with Sarah Hynds leading the field on a gross 80 with Susan Marshall hot on her heals with a gross 82. The best 2nd division gross scores were 90 brought in by both Marion Underhill and Jackie Willcox. Jackie had a nett score of 66 and Marion 67.
On Sunday the scores were almost as good but Sarah Hynds had three more shots than the day before, giving her a total of 163 to win the Championship. Susan Marshall was consistent with another 82 gross giving her a total of 164, just one shot behind Sarah.
In the 1st division the best nett scores of the day were Sue Sweet and Sarah Doble both with 68 and in the 2nd division Pat Jones had an amazing nett score of 64, followed by Lin Handley on 66.
In the clubhouse after the competition was completed the following trophies were handed out: Ladies Champion (Harris Trophy) Sarah Hynds (163); Runner-up (Claret Jug) Susan Marshall (164); 3rd place ('New' Cup) Vicky Eales (176). 2nd Division Gross Overall Winner (Louis Goblet) Marion Underhill (189); Runner-up – Jackie Willcox (192). 1st Division Nett Overall Winner (Wilder Cup) Sarah Hynds (135); Runner-up – Sue Sweet (140) 2nd Division Nett Overall Winner (Dicken Cup) Sue Chalker (138); Runner-up – Lin Handley (139).
The ladies will look back on the championship for not only good scores, but the extreme heat over the two days.
