In blustery but dry conditions, the Captain’s Monthly Roll-Up was held at Wells Golf Club. This month’s competition was a Bowmaker. The winning team of Bob Davies, Alan Burfitt and Mike Gee had a respectable score of 82 points. The runners-up had eighty points.
Bernhard Young’s putter was on fire in the Stragglers’ match against Worlebury and supported by Terry Searle, they won; as did all the pairings of Richard Mansfield and Chris Strickland, John Baker and Gary Leigh, Craig McConnell and Rory Meek, Steve Heath and Adam Holliday. A 5–0 win started the season off with a bang.
Wells’ Ladies played a friendly match against Wedmore in windy but dry weather. This was the first match of the season, which ended in a draw.
Wells’ Seniors entertained Shirehampton and won convincingly by five games to two. They also visited Clevedon and in a tightly contested match, lost by four-and-a-half games to three-and-a-half.
The Men’s B&D team played at Filton, with the winning combinations being Charlie Lewis and Baden Wilkinson, Pascal Normal and Nick Wilson. Glen Crocker and Mike Metcalfe halved their match, with a half overall for the team.
