It does not seem long ago that the Seniors were winding up their very long season of friendly matches and yet here we are reporting on their first match of the new season. In the absence of new Seniors Captain Elect Ian Whittamore, currently sidelined with injury, Seniors Captain Paul Godwin led the side when they visited Taunton & Pickeridge.
Unfortunately they found the home side in fine form and went down to a 1½-4½ defeat with halves coming from Paul Godwin/John Cross, David Braithwaite/Paul Wood and Mike Tout/John Brooksbank.
And finally I am sad to report that the ink has finally run out in my pen and after 529 press reports over nearly 11 years this is my final column. I just hope that the Mendip members and those reading the reports in the various publications in which they appear, have enjoyed reading them as much as I have had in producing them.
However, I am delighted to say that until a new reporter comes forward, that Stuart Disney is taking on the role as from next week which means, of course, news about club competitions will continue on a regular basis. So it is Cheerio from me and see you on the course!
