The Annual Captains’ Challenge saw some strong combinations up against the consistent Stuart Mann and Tina Davies. The winners were Club Chairman, Mike Magrath and his wife Gill with a top scoring forty. In second place were the perennial Mike and Chris Gee.
A good field turned out for the Captain’s October Roll Up at Wells Golf Club. The competition was a Bowmaker, which was very closely contested. With 72 points, the winners were Mike Magrath, Andy Williams and Rob Berry. Three points behind, were runners-up, Bill Levell, Tom Roberts and Ian Burr.
Wells Stragglers played their end of season Yellow Ball Competition. The weather stayed fair, but with autumn leaves thick on the ground, course and ball management were obviously sadly lacking. It started off badly as we all watched Club Captain Stuart Mann top his drive on the first with a ‘really good drive’ of almost forty yards. Six teams of three participated and there is only a need to mention the winners, who were John Hockey, Steve Porter and Terry Pearce.
This event drew the season to a close, which resulted in sixteen matches, eight wins, seven losses and one cancelled by the opposition, plus our two yellow ball competitions.
