Not too many golfers are still in competitive action at the age of ninety, but Geoff Weeks, from Fosseway Golf Club, is one of those. His many friends from the Seniors section of the club joined with his family and friends at a special party held at the Centurion Hotel to mark his ninetieth birthday. Seniors Captain, Ray Lake, congratulated Geoff on reaching this special landmark and made a presentation on behalf of the Seniors. In place of presents, a collection was taken in aid of Diabetes UK and raised over £600. The sun shone for the latest brace of social games for the Seniors, but the results failed to match the weather. The first game saw the team travel to Westbury Golf Club. Bob Smith and Cyril Blacker showed the way to go, winning their contest 5&4, but no other pairing could follow suit and Fosseway were beaten 5–1. Acting Captain, George Underwood, and Graham Edgell were beaten 7&5, Gerry Rowell and Chris Ellam lost 5&4 and John Wighton and John Williams were defeated 3&2. Howard Nowell and Geoff Hallett were just one down at the close, while Denis White and Malcolm Tucker lost 2&1. Two days later, Fosseway travelled to Shortwood Lodge and this time were beaten 4.5–1.5. The only winners were Allen Cheney and Tucker, who came from three down early on to win two up, while the Bath pairing of Terry Button and Arthur Bellinger earned a creditable half. Underwood and White were beaten 2&1, a fate also suffered by Blacker and Edgell, Smith and John Bendle lost 5&3, while Hallett and Frank Reeves went down 3&2. This Thursday, June 19th, the Seniors will be holding its Monthly Medal and the scratch contest for the Rod Bruce Trophy.
