Midsomer Norton Judo Club have just returned from a successful British Masters Championship, after claiming four medals and one of their judoka being crowned British Masters Champion.

The club sent six judoka to the event and retuned with one gold and three bronze medals.

Lee Adams, fighting in the -81kgs M5 class, took the gold, and was crowned British Masters Champion, after dominating his class by winning all of his contests.

James Hucker took bronze in the -73kgs M1 class, after successfully qualifying from the pool stages with two victories, but a tired performance in the semi-finals saw him come up short of qualifying for the final.

James’ younger brother, Richard Hucker, suffered the same fate as his older sibling – Richard won bronze fighting in the -81kgs M1 class by qualifying from the pool stages with two victories, winning one of those contests in eight seconds, but suffered defeat in the semi-finals after a strong performance.

Paul McNally also took bronze in the -100kgs M3 class. Paul put in some strong performances, and narrowly missed out on silver by the smallest of margins in the deciding contest.

Dave Bird and Jason Brown also competed, but were unfortunate to miss out on medals for different reasons. Dave was fighting in the +100kgs M6 class, and was progressing well until an injury forced him to withdraw whilst on course for a medal.

Jason, fighting in the -81kgs M4 class, was the unluckiest out of all the club’s judoka, after entering a class with the largest amount of entries. Despite putting in some impressive performances, which included winning two contests in 5 and 26 seconds, Jason missed out on a medal by a narrow margin in the decisive contest.
