Mendip Hockey’s Ladies’ First Team dominated from start to finish in this East Division encounter to put themselves five points clear at the top of the table, with just four games remaining.

Maddy Collins scored the game’s only goal. The Player of the Match award went to Megan Carey for tireless running and determination.

This Saturday, Mendip travel to Devizes for a 12.15 p.m. start.

Mendip took a trip to the windy seaside on Saturday, but there was no time for fish and chips – they were too busy scoring goals!

In the first half, they had the majority of possession and Sally Stanford opened the score line with a strong strike from the top of the D.

The score doubled shortly after, when Emily Sparkes got on the end of a hit-in from Katie Browning, and deflected the ball over the keeper into the net.

Beautiful passing within the D resulted in Ella Constable scooping in the ball from the P spot for number three, and Connie Glover was rewarded for her tireless attacking energy with goal number four.

In the second half, Weymouth sat deep and gave very little space to Mendip. Mendip had numerous short corners they failed to convert. However, Player of the Match, Jackie Browning, did find her way through the defence, following up her initial reverse stick strike to score the final goal of the game.

Currently sitting fourth in Wessex Division One, morale is high and Mendip are pursuing third spot.

This week, they face West Wilts at Chew Valley Sports Centre, 1.30 p.m. start.

MENDIP LADIES THIRDS 1 CLIFTON ROBINSONS 8

Mendip worked hard against table-topping Clifton on Saturday, but were ultimately undone by the visitors’ accuracy in front of goal.

Shelby Knight scored Mendip’s consolation goal on her debut for the Thirds.

This week, Mendip are at home to Westberries at Chew Valley Sports Centre, 10.30 a.m. start.

Meanwhile, the Men’s First Team won 3–2 Away at South Gloucester and the Seconds were held to a 1–1 draw by Old Bristolians.
