Saturday, 1st February saw a local derby take place with Purnell’s Quins going head-to-head against Paulton Rovers’ Vipers.
The first quarter started with a bang, with both teams out for the win. Hungry for victory, the game started with Quins taking first centre, seeing a goal-for-goal score until the reactive mid-court, Jo and Charis, turned the ball time and again, sending it into the hands of shooting magicians, Lily and Macey, resulting in a lead by Quins.
Vipers continued pushing, earning themselves a two-goal lead by the end of the quarter. The second quarter saw Vipers begin to take a lead.
The Quins team gave it their all, with Captain Kel keeping a level head and controlling the game and calming the team. The third quarter saw the gap grow bigger between Quins and Vipers, however, Quins refused to let it get the best of them.
The fiery defensive trio of Emma, Jada and Jennie turned up the heat, making some cracking interceptions, creating opportunities left, right and centre and closing the gap between the teams even more by the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter began with all still to play for; both teams battled it out until the very end – players from both sides giving their all.
The fourth quarter saw some brilliant play with Quins’ very own big friendly giant, Alice, scoring some beautiful shots. Although the game saw some excellent moments from Harlequins, the final score was 48–33 to Vipers. Players’ Player and Oppositions’ Player was awarded to Jada-Rose Dixon.
On Saturday, 1st February, Musketeers played Pilgrims at home. The game started with Pilgrims taking the first centre pass; sadly we lost that quarter. In the next quarter, we put up more of a battle and managed to get the score closer, but still fell behind. As the third-quarter started, we made more changes to our defence, but Pilgrims still managed to gain the win.
In the final quarter, Musketeers continued to put up a fight and pushing on, despite the score being so far apart, however, the final quarter was a massive improvement which allowed us to almost double our score.
Sadly, the game finished by Musketeers losing by 13–61, despite having such a big gap between the scores, the Musketeers kept their heads up and showed great sportsmanship.
They were supported and given great advice on what improvements could be made by Emma, Dawn and Kellie.
Musketeers awarded their Players’ Player to Lily Angell and Pilgrims’ Players’ Player was India-Mae Kingman.
