The Mendip hills will be the countryside ‘Cheltenham’ on Sunday when the Mendip Farmers’ Point to Point takes place near Ston Easton with the first of six races at 12.30 pm, followed by two pony races where the jockeys of the future show off their skills. Coming just two days after the festival will still make it a wonderful but relaxed afternoon of racing.

Mendip is renowned as a good but testing course and attracts quality and plentiful entries from across the region. Plenty for racegoers to enjoy, all of which will be shown on the big screen. The point to point entries have horses entered for more than one meet over the weekend, so it is not always to easy to know who will actually run. In the entries list is Southfield Theatre, bred by Mrs Angela Yeoman of Frome and ridden by Lily Bradstock, already a winner this season.

This is a day when country and city meet with plenty of activities away from the racing for all. Some of the picnics which spill from cars would give any at Royal Ascot a run for their money. Children’s entertainment, many food outlets, retail therapy and bookmakers if needed.

The green fields have morphed over the last few weeks into a real racecourse, it is a good walk to go around the track.
