Mendip Hockey Club’s ladies section are celebrating a string of successes in this year’s District Summer League.
The First Team, captained by April Callow, were unbeaten throughout the campaign and sealed top spot with a hard-earned victory against Frome in the final game. The future for the other ladies teams is also looking bright, with Jackie Browning’s Second Team securing two wins, including an excellent 1-0 win over Winscombe, and Connie Glover’s Under-18 side picking up two great wins and a draw to finish in sixth place.
Pre-season training for the forthcoming West Clubs Womens’ Hockey League season begins on Thursday, 18th August at Norton Hill School, with League fixtures commencing on Saturday, 24th September. The First Team will be vying for top spot in East Division, the Second Team hoping to consolidate their position in Brunel 1 and the Thirds looking to top last year’s excellent fourth place in Brunel 3.
The men’s section, meanwhile, finished in a creditable third position in their Summer League campaign, under the careful stewardship of out-going Captain, Andy Flint. Their most notable victory came with a 9-0 drubbing of Bristol and West at Winterbourne. Men’s pre-season training begins on Wednesday, 17th August.
