MENDIP LADIES 1sts 2 KNOWLE 1

Mendip’s first league outing since the Christmas break saw them secure a victory which was more comfortable than the scoreline would suggest.

Knowle opened the scoring after just five minutes with a deflected counter-attacking goal, which came against the run of play.

From there on in, it was all Mendip. Forwards, Jasmine Scott, Megan Carey and Maddison Collins, all had the pace and skill to outwit their experienced counterparts in the Knowle defence, and Mendip created chance after chance. Despite some excellent build-up play, the score remained 0-1 into the half-time break.

Mendip found an equaliser early in the second half, when Hayley Bullock executed a close-range finish from a penalty corner. Jasmine Scott then showed great composure to lift the ball over the Knowle keeper to put Mendip ahead. Player of the Match, Hayley Young, was instrumental in creating many more chances, but the Knowle keeper made some good saves.

This Saturday, fifth-place Mendip welcome second-place team Bath Buccs to Chew Valley, in what promises to be a fiery encounter, from 10.30 a.m. Carrie Tiley
