The 9 hole event was won by Margaret Hawker with 18 points well clear of the remaining competitors. The Ladies Friendly Team visited Wells and after a close battle just went down 2-3. Winning pairs for Mendip were Louise Scott and Gina Howard and Anne Collins playing with Sue Needham.

The Seniors visited Weston and found the home team too strong on this occasion going down 1½-4½. Mendip’s winning pair were Terry Carter playing with Seniors Vice Captain Tony Scott and Paul Wood/John Stembridge gained a half. The Seniors annual drawn Pairs event saw 24 pairs produce some excellent scores in good playing conditions of sunshine and a gentle breeze. Tony Taylor and Jim Boyd were third with 41 points after a four way tie. John Roper and Nick Inskip were second with 42 but the clear Winners with 44 were immediate Past Senior’s Captain Steve Davis playing with Peter Rumming.

Mendip’s Junior Club Championship were held and saw a variety of Competitions take place so that all the Juniors had the opportunity to play in an event suitable to their ability.

The Championship Winners were – Sophie-Louise Sloman with 14 points in the 9 hole event and she wins the Golf Development Championship award. Grant Jeffery won the 18 hole Stableford event with 38 points. The main Junior Championship event was a medal and the winner of the Net Award was Alexander Leonard with a net 72 after count back from Ben Roberts. However, the new Club Junior Champion with a Gross 78 was Ffion Richardson with Owen Roach second with 83 and Connie Cox third with 84. Unfortunately this was to be Ffion’s swan song at Mendip as the family are now moving back to the North West of England and we wish Ffion and her brother Thomas and father all the best in the future.

And finally last year’s Seniors Captain Steve Davis at long last was able to present a cheque for £8,685 raised during his year to the British Heart Foundation, a tremendous effort by Steve and all those who supported him in raising this very substantial sum. Well done to all concerned.
