All four Writhlington teams are mid-table or above, following the second round of matches played last Friday evening.

The Mixed Firsts had a storming 10–0 win at home to Backwell Seconds, to add to the ten points from the previous week, which must make them Division 2B table-toppers!

Jon Doel and Francesca Beg matched the Nathan Jackson/Alex Hull pairing in sets and games until the second round of rubbers, when Nathan and Alex’s opposition had to concede, owing to an injury.

The Mixed Seconds lost 10–0 at Hanham in Division 3A, but will be mid-table after winning 10–0 the previous week. The team was very different: Adam Benney paired with Alison John, and Yuan Wu partnered Tracey Stephens, with Yuan and Tracey coming close to taking a set off the Hanham B pair.

The Men’s Seniors had the closest of wins (6–4) over David Lloyd Westbury Seconds. The ability of both Westbury pairs was somewhere between that of the two Writhlington pairs – Chris Cox and Andy Jeffery romped home against both pairs, conceding only four games all night.

Pete Goldsmith and Ray Clarke were comfortably beaten, but managed to garner five games in their two rubbers, so whilst rubbers and sets were equal, Writhlington won the match by just one game!

The Men’s Seniors have now won 6–4 and lost 6–4, so have ten out of twenty points – mid-table! Chris Cox and Andy Jeffery are unbeaten in their four rubbers this season – how long will this last?

The Ladies’ Seniors added a 6–4 win at Knowle to last week’s 10–0 win, so seem to be the team to beat. Knowle is always a difficult place to win at, so well done to Louise Derrick, Tina Lindley, Jacqui Grainger and Jane Benney!

The Avon Late Summer Leagues run until mid-October, playing a match every week, except August Bank Holiday weekend.
