At last week's Midsomer Norton Cricket Club AGM, First Team Skipper, Nick Potter, reported on the club's successful return to the Bristol and Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League. With rain washing out more than one-third of the eighteen First Team fixtures, the team finished fourth, within thirty points of champions, Minehead.

Elsewhere on the field of play, the 2012 season was notable for the Sunday Second XI's promotion from the North Somerset Cricket League's Sunday Conference Division Five. Skipper, Roger Perkins, highlighted the mixture of youth and experience that helped secure this achievement.

In 2013, Nick Potter will Captain the First XI and Tom Webb takes charge of the Second XI, while Paul Justin will continue as Captain of the Third Team. Nick Cox and Roger Perkins will lead the Sunday First and Second Teams respectively.

Off the field, the bad weather and cancellation of fixtures in 2012 impacted on the club's finances, so the club has decided to establish an Executive Committee to help it meet the challenges it faces.

Members thanked the outgoing Chairman, Paul Justin, for all his hard work after Kevin Tabb was elected to serve as Chairman of the club for a second time. Members also thanked Henry Thomas for his work as President. Ian Macdonald will serve as President and Tom Webb (Secretary) and Martin Cox (Treasurer) will continue in their roles.

Chairman Kevin Tabb, who has been associated with the club for forty years, is positive and very optimistic about the club's short-term and long-term future. He said: "The Management Committee will be doing everything possible to ensure youth cricket is expanded, both in terms of numbers and girls' cricket, as this is the basis for the future of the club."

Preparations for next season, including winter nets, will start early in the new year, but members are looking forward to a special event in January when the club hosts a darts exhibition night on Saturday, 19th January. The star attraction is Wayne Mardle.

New players of all abilities are always welcome at the club. For more information, please contact Phil Mortimer on: 01761 413725 or email: [email protected]">[email protected]
