Timsbury Athletic moved to the top of the Somerset County League Division Two East with a 4–2 victory away to neighbours, Tunley Athletic, on a pitch that was in remarkably good condition after the recent monsoons.
The visitors got off to the best possible start, with a goal as early as the third minute. A corner from Timsbury's Man of the Match, Ross Padfield, was forced over the line by Dave Percival. Soon after, Mark Hancock almost added a second, shooting just over the top, and a raking cross from Padfield flashed across the goal without anyone getting a touch.
Tunley struggled to get into the contest and Timsbury wasted a free kick on the edge of the box after Andy Gulliford had been brought down, while Justin Dowling found the net but was clearly offside. Despite dominating possession, the visitors failed to create many clear-cut chances and gradually Tunley worked their way into the match.
A speculative effort from Barney Rich in the 35th minute was the home side's first real attempt on goal, but soon after they equalised. Jason Curtis' free kick was headed on to the bar by Chris Young and Richard Cope-Evans reacted first to head home the rebound. It gave Tunley just the boost they needed and they ended the half on top.
After relinquishing the initiative in the first half, Timsbury made a strong, determined start to the second period and within eight minutes had regained the lead. Tunley failed to clear a Padfield corner and James Noan hammered the ball past Ryan Edmonds in the home goal. Soon after, Tunley again failed to deal with a Padfield corner and this time it was Mark Hancock who popped up to put the visitors 3–1 ahead.
At the other end, a long-range effort from Steve Peacock was comfortably held by Timsbury custodian, Ben Paisey, but with fifteen minutes to go, the keeper was beaten when a firm shot from Young was deflected past Paisey by Noan.
At 3–2 the game was suddenly alive again, but then a shot from Percival was pushed on to the post by Edmonds and Jack Nix followed up to turn the ball in for Timsbury's fourth.
The Big D Transport Man of the Match was Ross Padfield (Timsbury). This week, Timsbury are home to Stockwood Green Reserves.
