The Grand National was not the only sporting event to see some fantastic racing over the weekend as Norton Radstock Swimming Club put on a fantastic performance at the Calne Alpha Open Meet.
Against the odds, the squad of ten swimmers faced off tough competition from clubs from across Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire to deliver an impressive number of personal-bests and medals.
Saturday saw Oswin, in the ten-years boys’ events, win gold in the 200m Free, Silver in the 50m Fly and Bronze in the 100m Breaststroke. There were also several top-eight finishes for the squad, as well as personal best times.
The success continued on the Sunday. Despite having never raced the 200m Backstroke before, Maisie took Gold in the nine-years-and-under category, adding to her bronze medal in the 50m Free. Oswin added to his medals, winning Silver in 100m Fly and Bronze in the 50m Free (ten-years boys).
Jamie, Sam and Sophie just missed out on the medals – Jamie in the 200m and 100m twelve-years boys Backstroke events, Sam in the 200m eleven-years boys 200m Breaststroke and Sophie in the nine-years girls 200m Free.
The rest of the squad produced some outstanding swims. Hannah, Megan, Alicia and Evie took several seconds off their previous personal-best times, no doubt aided by the scrumptious cupcakes offered by the event organisers!
Congratulations to all the swimmers competing and a big thank you to Head Coach, Kay Willcox, and assistants, Mollie Hughes and Lucy Jackson, for giving up their weekend to support the swimmers.
