Purnells Bowls Club: With the outdoor season rapidly drawing to a close, although the weather is more mid-summer than autumnal, our ladies entertained Chew Stoke on Thursday in the afternoon heat but unfortunately came second.

Our Somerset league teams have now completed all fixtures with our ‘A’ team playing their delayed final game on Friday evening against Bath ‘A’. It was a real crunch game as we needed a minimum two points to avoid relegation, well the men pulled out all the stops and won on all rinks for a maximum 12 points to 9th in Premier 1.

Our ‘B’ team finished 4th in East 1 and the ‘C’ team also finished 9th in East 2. The annual charity games are drawing to a close with the final being played at Frome Selwood between Purnell and Frome Park/ Selwood this Thursday with the proceeds going to SWALLOW, a very worthy local charity.

Purnell indoor bowls club opens its doors on September 25th with the usual combination of internal leagues and County competitions. There is still time for anyone wishing to give it a try with free coaching every Saturday morning, 10.30am to 12pm.
