Fine weather, a large crowd and the normal stiff breeze greeted Teignmouth as they paid their first visit to Norton Down. The visitors got into the game quickly and soon found a miss-match in defence, with their lively backs running against front row forwards and scoring wide out in the corner, the extra points were added with a fine kick.

The quarter of an hour mark saw a rare visit to the Teignmouth 22m area from the home side centre, Rowles, who broke through the defence, juggling the ball to score under the posts. Taylor added the conversion. The rest of the half was fiercely contested, with neither side being able to make a breakthrough. The score remained at 7–7 when the half was brought to a close.

Norton now knew they would have the wind on their side for the next forty minutes and started to make the most of the forwards’ dominance to supply good ball to the backs.

Full back, Abbott, made the most of this to cross for the home side’s second try and to take the lead for the first time, but unfortunately the full back was injured in the act of scoring. For the second week in succession, the team relaxed once they were in the lead; this allowed the visitors to strike straight back and score under the posts. The conversion put them back in the lead.

The home side responded with another well-executed backs move, with winger, Luke Murphy, timing his pass perfectly to put Moon in under the posts unopposed, to score the side’s third try and regain the lead.

Teignmouth finished the game with a period of pressure in the Norton twenty-two area, forcing a series of penalties from the home side and flanker, Button, yellow carded. As the game was coming to a close, one last penalty was given away. Teignmouth spun the ball out wide to the blind side wing, who dived over near the touchline to draw the scores, luckily for Norton, the conversion was missed and they escaped with their first two league points of the season to move off the bottom of the table.
