MATSON 27 MIDSOMER NORTON 13

In the midst of a snow-day packed weekend, Norton travelled to Matson for the second time in three weeks in the Intermediate Cup.

In what was largely an evenly-matched contest once again, Matson emerged victorious, with the final score 27-13, largely due to their superior lineout work that gave them a stranglehold.

Norton were unable to create enough pressure through good possession in Matson’s territory due to this, and had to attempt to make the most of every opportunity to attack from the scrum or from broken field counter-attacks. From a scrum inside of their own half, Midsomer Norton scored an excellent try, with Button, Schuster, Taylor and Mitchard combining to put Jeffery into space down the right touchline, who passed back inside to Schuster to score.

A special mention for Pat Howell, who at just shy of eighteen-years-old, played the last twenty minutes and looks like a potential First Team regular for years to come. The journey home was a tranquil affair, where everyone kept their clothes on, drank responsibly, and behaved impeccably. Best of luck to Matson in the next round.
