Timsbury Athletic 4 Somerton Town 1: Timsbury Athletic moved up to third place in the Uhlsport Somerset County League Premier Division after another strong performance which saw them defeat the on-form Somerton Town side 4-1 at home.

The visitors contributed much to a high quality match and it needed two late goals to remove the tension and wrap up the points for the home side.

Both sides came out of the blocks quickly and after Rico Sobers’ early effort had just gone past the post Timsbury took the lead in the 11th minute. Hesitancy in the Somerton defence opened the door for Nathan Flynn who hammered home the opener with confidence.

Within two minutes the visitors were level. Captain Jamie Brown headed Will Pate’s cross on to the crossbar and Robert Haggett reacted quickest to tap home the rebound.

At the other end a free-kick from distance from Rio Bryant almost caught out Somerton keeper Charlie Travers but he just managed to touch the ball around the post. Brown was proving a real menace in the visitors’ attack but he missed a great chance to put his side in front failing to connect properly and seeing Timsbury Keeper Jack Scrivens save comfortably. Rhys Cook then shot just wide for the home side while Scrivens saved well from Brown.

The second half again began with action at both ends with a Sobers’ effort cleared off the visitors’ line and Scrivens saving well from Krystian Woods. Directly from the save Timsbury swept to the other end and Sobers showed the coolest of heads to shoot past Travers and put Timsbury in front once more. Almost immediately the impressive Sobers hit the post with a fine shot and Cook raced clear only to be robbed at the last moment.

Timsbury were playing some good football and creating more chances but it was not until the 87th minute that they secured the points with Cook pouncing on another defensive lapse to shoot past Travers. Right on time the same player then added a fourth to confirm another impressive victory.
