Welton got back to winning ways with a terrific team performance, played in difficult conditions, and returned to West Clewes with all three points and third position in the league.

This was one of the few games played in the Tool-station Western League due to the recent weather and credit must go to the Warminster

officials for getting the game on. The game got underway on a heavy, sticky pitch and Welton took the lead within two minutes of the kick-off.

Great play by Paul Banks on the right saw him turn and beat three men before setting up Andrew Keen, whose first-time shot was beaten away by Carl Crabtree in the Warminster goal, but the ball fell to young Dan Cottle and he fired in a cracking shot that roared into the Warminster net.

Welton continued to press and a long-range effort from Dan Rosser was saved by Crabtree. The home side regrouped and an effort from Sam Babature was safely gathered by Andy King in the Welton goal. Banks was then fouled on the edge of the area and Tom Pawley's free kick was saved at full stretch by Crabtree to deny Welton a second goal. On the half-hour, Pawley picked up a knock and was replaced by Anthony Conradi. Welton continued to press for more goals and the home side had their keeper, Crabtree, to thank as he saved from Keen and palmed away an effort from Conradi. Despite constant pressure, Welton had only the one goal to show for all their efforts as the half-time whistle blew.

The second half began with heavy rain falling, making the conditions even more difficult for the players. A sweeping Welton attack saw the ball fall to Cottle out on the left and his first-time shot flew across the face of the Warminster goal. Minutes later, Welton had keeper, King, to thank when he produced an outstanding double save to thwart close-range efforts from Babature and Sparey.

Warminster were getting more into the game and a shot from Lewis Graham went inches wide of the Welton post. The home side's revival wasn't helped in the sixtieth minute when central defender, Steve Seals, was shown a straight red for bundling over Cottle and swinging a punch at the youngster. After the melee that ensued following the incident, Welton's Tom Smith was booked. With players tiring on the heavy pitch, Welton Manager, Nick Beaverstock, rung the changes and used all three substitutes and good play by Patrick Doyle saw him take on his marker, beat him and then set up Banks in space, but the striker shot straight at the keeper.

However, with three minutes to go, Doyle was at it again when he attacked the Warminster defence, turned his marker and set up Banks, who this time calmly drilled his shot into the corner of the Warminster goal to give Welton the cushion they needed. As the final whistle blew, the Welton players were given a great ovation by the ranks of the travelling Green Army for a job well done.
