This was a game that Welton completely dominated, but in the end, were grateful for the point.

The game got underway with early pressure from the visitors, with Archie Wilkinson looking lively in attack and a good cross from him was met by Obain Foot and his effort went just wide. Welton began to settle but Clayton Dando, in the Welton goal, pulled off an outstanding save to deny Wilkinson the first goal of the game. Welton's first real effort saw a corner from Dan Scrivens met by Jack Metcalfe and his glancing header flashed past the far post. Minutes later another corner from Scrivens was this time met by central defender, Billie Cooper, and his header crashed against the Shrewton crossbar. Good play by Jack Nix on the right saw his quality delivery scrambled away for a corner as the visitors' defence looked all at sea.

Further efforts from Nix and Ryan Gay were somehow cleared by Shrewton as Welton really stepped up a gear. A fine header from Barry Sanquest was brilliantly saved by the Shrewton keeper, Chris Brewer, who minutes later tipped a goalbound shot from Metcalfe over the bar. As the half-time whistle blew, the Green Army were amazed that the score remained goalless.

Welton suffered an early setback at the start of the second half, when Scrivens pulled up with an injury and was replaced by Jamie Mines. Welton continued to press the visitors' defence and a header from Sandquest went wide, then a flying header from Ben Bicknell rocked the Shrewton post.

It was all Welton, but that all-important goal wouldn't come. Nix and Gay went close with shots and Gay broke through the visitor's back line, only to fire his shot high and wide of the target. As is often the case in games like this, the home support were becoming somewhat nervous as the goal remained elusive and with five minutes remaining, their fears were justified when the visitors scored. A rare attack, led by Damien Creese, saw him find Nathan Pospischik in space and he calmly slotted the ball past the on-rushing Dando and into the Welton net.

Welton went all out to score the equaliser and it came with the last play of the game. A great run and cross from Metcalfe landed in the mixer and as the visitors scrambled to clear it, the ball struck Shrewton's central defender, Ollie Hoare, on the back and flew into the net.
