Welton picked up three valuable league points with a very good win over the visitors from Wiltshire.

Both sides took a while to get used to the very heavy pitch and early exchanges were bogged down in midfield. Welton's first meaningful foray saw Ryan Gay attack down the right flank where he found Dan Scrivens, but his effort was cleared by the hesitant Devizes defence.

Welton continued to cause problems for the visitors and a cracking shot from the edge of the area by Byron Lismore saw Devizes' keeper, Matty Penfold, save at full stretch as he tipped the ball over the bar. Devizes first attempt at goal saw Welton keeper, Dan Tamblyn, save well from Danny Hale.

Welton got off the mark in the eighteenth minute when a great run from Welton Skipper, Jack Metcalf, saw him race to just before the goal line and sent in a well-struck low shot towards goal at a tight angle. Devizes defender, Steve Bush, dived at full length to clear the ball, but he headed it straight into the Devizes net. Welton continued to press and excellent play from Greg Dando saw him find Metcalf and his goal-bound shot was brillantly saved by Penfold to deny Welton a second.

With ten minutes to go before half-time, Welton got a second when Gay was brought down in the Devizes box. Bush then mouthed-off at the assistant referee who had awarded the penalty and referee, Joanna Stimpson, had no hesitation in showing Bush a straight red card. Up stepped Metcalf, who made no mistake with his spot kick.

The second half began with early pressure from the visitors as they attempted to reduce the arrears, but Welton's back line held firm.

Welton nearly got a third when Lismore headed straight at the keeper with the goal at his mercy. However, in the 55th minute, Lismore made amends when the Devizes defence failed to clear their lines properly and the ball fell to Lismore, just in the penalty area, and he drilled his shot firmly into the visitors' net to score Welton's third.

Gay nearly got a fourth for Welton when he raced through the Devizes defence only to shoot wide of the target. It was comfortable for Welton now and they consolidated their play giving the visitors little room to cause problems and in the end Welton ran out comfortable winners.
