This was a feisty game that saw two penalties and two sent off, but Welton came away with all three points against their third-placed opponents.

First effort of the game saw Welton's midfielder, Tom Smith, strike a shot from twenty yards out that was gathered by the Cribbs' keeper, Matt Turner. At the other end, former Welton striker, Andy Forward, saw his close-range effort saved by Andy King. This was followed by a terrific shot from distance by

Anthony Conradi that really stung Turner's hands as he saved.

The game eventually settled down, but there was strong play from both sides with tackles flying in and referee Bishop was a busy man. King then made another fine save to deny Forward for a second time and at the other end, Paul Banks found Conradi with a perfect throughball and his first-time effort was well saved by the Cribbs keeper. Just before the half-time whistle, further good play from Conradi saw him turn his marker, but, unfortunately for Welton, he fired his shot over Cribbs' bar.

Welton took the lead virtually straight from the kick-off, Banks was found on the edge of the Cribbs' box and he turned and delightfully chipped the ball high into the top corner of the net to score a very good goal indeed. Welton continued to press and a fine attacking run by Dan Cottle saw him shrug off two challenges before finding Conradi with a quality pass, the striker's effort was eventually cleared by Cribbs' defence. On the sixtieth minute, pressure from the home side saw Byron Lismore bring down Dave Gilroy in the box and referee Bishop had no hesitation in awarding a penalty.

Up stepped Matt Davis, who blasted his effort and King brought off an outstanding save to tip the ball over the bar. Five minutes later, Welton were reduced to ten men when Conradi was shown a straight red following a crunching tackle. Cribbs were piling on the pressure for an equaliser, but Welton were resolute in defence and Welton's cause was helped when Cribbs were reduced to ten men when Davis was shown his second yellow card of the game, following a hard tackle on Ricky Chandler. The drama wasn't over yet, as Welton defended, Cribbs were always in danger of being caught by a Welton breakout and so it was with two minutes to go.

Banks was found in space and he roared into the area, only to be brought down by the Cribbs keeper and Welton were awarded the spot kick. Banks decided to take the kick, but he chipped his effort high over the Cribbs bar. The home side continued to press for the equaliser, but Welton held firm and came away with three valuable points.
