A FROME artist is desperately seeking a missing piece of artwork that she needs to deliver for an exhibition tomorrow on Friday. (September 11).

Violet Von Riot put out a plea on Frome social media, asking for anyone who has recently purchased a print of her painting, The Church Steps in Bristol, to check if it really is a print - or the real thing!

While preparing her entries heading to the Royal Victoria Gallery for the Bath Open exhibition, Violet realised that the original painting may have been sold as a print by mistake.

She is asking anyone who has purchased a copy of the painting recently to check to see if it could be the original.

She said: “Have you, or has anyone anyone you can think of, purchased an A3 framed one of these from the Frome independent market in the last two months?

“If so, please can I urge you to check it, to see if its a print, or the original.

“The only way you could tell is to hold it under a light and move around, to see it any of the paper is reflective/shiny - you can do this in the frame.”

She is asking anyone who has the original to return it to her as soon as possible so that she can ‘borrow’ it for the exhibition.

The painting of the steps is one of two that Violet has had accepted into the Bath Open exhibition, with a chance to apply to become a member of the Bath Society of Artists if she is successful.

With just one piece - a collage of Bath - she is halving her chances. She added: “If I can't locate the Church steps, I will just have to take the Bath piece, and half my chances.”

The artist is also offering the person who returns the painting £800 if the painting sells while being exhibited, as well as replacing the print.
