A NEW hedgerow is set to be planted in the Chew Valley countryside in early 2026 as part of efforts to support local wildlife.

The site, Chew Stoke Pumping Station, was purchased by Bristol Water more than 70 years ago and has since been managed for nature. Bordering the Mendip Hills, the area is known for its biodiversity, with 13 of the 18 species of bat found in the UK recorded locally at Chew Valley Lake.

The new hedgerow will be planted alongside the wildflower meadow, linking existing mature woodland to create a wildlife corridor.

Volunteers are being invited to take part in the planting session. Those who have not joined an event previously are asked to register in advance at: volunteer.cpre.org.uk/opportunities/70106-hedgerow-heroes-hedgerow-heroes-avon-and-bristol-2024-07-29
