Do you recognise this interior? It is a well used building, although looks slightly different today. Do you know anything about the mural? Please get in touch with the editor at [email protected] if you have any memories and for a mention in the Gazette.

Last month’s photo was taken from the churchyard in the centre of West Harptree village in about 1880. Two horses are tethered outside the old Crown Inn, before it was rebuilt, and the staff of Joseph Collins’ grocers and drapers shop stand outside, posing for the camera. The shop is still there, serving the community.
The history society is always interested in old pictures of people, places and events in the Chew Valley and Wrington area. If you have any you would like to share, please email [email protected]
The society’s programme of summer walks and visits continues this month, with a guided tour of Compton Martin Church on Wednesday, June 25. Contact the society as above for more details.
