Last week’s photo showed a village scene, and it seems it had many of you stumped.

Phil and Donna guessed it was the Tyning Inn alongside the old colliery in Radstock - a hostelry that survived from the 15th century until just a few years ago.

Shelagh Wormald thought it might show Greenhills.

But only two people nailed it.

Martin Horler emailed in saying: “I am guessing that this week’s photo is Shoscombe,” with Tessa Wyatt saying similar on our Facebook comments.

The village’s numbers swelled in the coal mining boom of the mid 1700s, but Paglinch Farmhouse is the oldest known dwelling in the Shoscombe area. It probably had medieval origins but is dated 1632. Meanwhile nearby Foxcote Farm has an inside window dated around 1666.

From 1929 until March 1966, Shoscombe had a railway station, called Shoscombe and Single Hill Halt, on the main line of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway.
