CAN you guess where this week’s Mystery Photograph was taken?

Each week, the Journal invites readers to identify a historic location from days gone by.

We had so many entries for last week’s photo: “Today's mystery photo is Chilcompton the building on the left is The Redan Inn,” said Roger Brooks. Mystery Photo regular Jeff Parsons wrote in to day: “This week the picture shows Frys Well Chilcompton, leading down from the main road with the building on the right hand side being the current Redan Inn.”

Journal photo contributor Peter Strawbridge said: "This week's mystery photo is in Chilcompton, with The Redan Inn on the right, and Fry's Well just out of view opposite the horse drawn cab.”

And Edward Oldman wrote: “I believe the mystery photograph is looking down Frys Well, Chilcompton and the building is the Redan Inn. I used to go there with my late wife Mabel.”

Can you guess the location of this street scene complete with horse and carriage?
So many of you guessed this correctly as the Redan Inn and Fry's Well at Chilcompton. (Radstock Museum)

Via Facebook Linda Eaton Chant said: “Learnt hill starts on that hill when I was learning to drive with instructor.” Who can forget learning those!

Ian Eyles: “Fry’s Well, just down from the Redan public house in Chilcompton,” and Trace Keyworth: “I have this exact photo hung in my kitchen - Redan Inn, Chilcompton.”

Chris Hicks added: “It is indeed Frys Well. The cottages at the bottom to the left were demolished in the 50s I believe,” while Martin Horler said: “Looks like The Redan at Chilcompton on the right.”

Stewart Monckton said: “Not only do I know where this - I can see the chimney of the house I was born in! The horse and cart are parked outside of it. Looking down Fry's Well, Chilcompton, from just uphill of the Redan.” Spot on everyone!
