Despite the unsettled weather, members of Fosseway Bowls Club had a very enjoyable tour. We stayed at the Toorak Hotel in Torquay, which was excellent.
On Monday evening, after our very nice meal, we went over to the Derwent Hotel for the entertainment. This was provided by Tank Sherman, who many of us know from Keith’s Charity Cabarets. As usual, he kept everyone entertained.
On Tuesday morning, everyone did their own thing. The game in the afternoon was at Torquay Bowling Club, where due to the weather we were only able to complete ten ends. We had two winning rinks and the highest was Janet Andrews, Dave Cocks, Barry Andrews and Carole Jenner-Timms.
Wednesday’s game was at Babbacombe, and the weather was a bit kinder – we managed to complete the full game, with Fosseway winning on all rinks except one. Total score was 103 to Fosseway and 78 to Babbacombe. Winning rink on this day was Bob Jenner, Julie and Steward MacFarlane and Dave Yarlett.
On Thursday, we had to travel a bit further afield to Marldon Bowls Club. This was the best day weather-wise, and the green played very well. We only won on one rink, and the total score was 82 to 126 in favour of the home team. Winning rink on this day was Yvonne Phillips, Sue Burke, Mike Hamblin and Dave Yarlett.
Every morning, everyone did their own thing. Entertainment was on every evening, so there was plenty for everyone to do all day long.
Thanks were given to Celia for all her hard work in booking the hotel, and sorting out the greens, which all played very well and all our opponents were very friendly.
Just a reminder – there will be no club night on Bank Holiday Monday, 7th May, but will be held on the Tuesday, 8th May.
There is still time for anyone wanting to try the game of bowls to come along on a club night, or any time you see some one at the club.
