PRATTENS Bowls Club’s league season is now underway after a number of friendly mens, mixed and ladies games taking place.
There has been one game in the Wild League for the Ladies which was played at Street which, unfortunately, was lost. There are few details about the match as the ladies captain (Sue) is currently in hospital.
The men’s team have played three games in the Somerset County Bowls League East 2 division . The first of these was away to Knowle C which was very close, with the team losing by two shots while picking up only two of the 12 points available.
The next match was against Bloomfield B at home which was even closer but Prattens lost by a quarter of a shot while collecting four points.
The third fixture saw Prattens pick up their first win of the summer, gaining eight points away to Purnell C, winning by 14.25 shots. For the curious, the fractions of shots accrue where a rink has a player short and some of their players play with three woods instead of two to make up the eight woods per side on a rink which provides that rink with an advantage.
Prattens’ next game was due to be in the Mid-Somerset Mens Bowls League against Norwest who withdrew from the fixture, which meants Prattens were awarded the game.
The club’s next game is a mixed fixture in the Mixed Mid-Somerset League away to Glastonbury. So far this season Prattens have managed to field full teams in the leagues, unlike most of their opponents, but the Prattens club could still do with some more people who wish to try the great game of bowls.
