It’s been a very busy week at Purnell Bowls Club, the highlights of which are that Terry Priddle and Jan Dart and Ailsa Midwinter have qualified to play at the National Finals, at Leamington, in August, by reaching the finals of the Somerset County Competitions, Terry in the Men’s Two Wood competition and Jan and Ailsa in the Ladies Pairs.

Success was followed up with a fine win by the Ladies in the first round of the County Fear Cup, and they go on to play Paulton in the next round.

Meanwhile, it has not been the most successful week for the men. In the County League, the A team had a very good win, by 10-2, against Taunton Deane, but the B and C teams lost their matches. The B team by 1-11, against Keynsham B, and the C Team by 3-9, against Weston Bath B. There were also defeats in the National Top Club and the County Turnbull Cup. In the Top Club losing 1-4 to a strong Bristol side and in the Turnbull Cup a very close game against Bath away, losing by six shots.

The next important event in the club’s calendar is the ever-popular Open 4’s Day, on Monday, 15th July, when we will welcome twelve teams to a day of competitive but friendly bowling.

As usual, we welcome anyone interested in trying out the game of bowls to contact Don or Jan Dart: 01761 471019 or visit our website: www.purnellbowls.co.uk. Or just come along to our Saturday morning sessions, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., where our coaches will make you most welcome. We do offer free membership for the first year for new bowlers.
