Roses are red, violets are blue; and on Saturday evening at Norwest, red roses were in abundance and romance was well and truly in the air, when members met up at the clubhouse for a quizzical evening of fun and games, laughter – and of course, oodles of luv.
Can you remember who sang ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, ‘The Crying Game’ or ‘What Becomes of the Broken Hearted’? These were just a few of the teasers at our Valentine’s evening, and although there were some scratched heads and puzzled frowns, we certainly didn’t have any crying or broken hearts. Among our other games, we were treated to ‘Lovey, Dovey Dingbats’, ‘Cupid’s Arrows’, the ‘Food of Love’ and ‘A Question of Romance’.
As usual, we had a great selection of prizes donated for our raffle and the buffet supper table was groaning under the weight of all the goodies on offer.
Overall, the competition was stiff, with just half a point giving the winning team victory. And now for the results: Jo, Mick, Tianna, George and Sam, our winning team, claimed the Winners’ prizes of wine, chocolates and cuddly toys, while Mary, Ann, Ken and Avis, the team which came in last, happily accepted their coveted wooden spoons.
The evening was a great success, and I’d like to thank all who helped in any way, especially to our scorer, Ann, who did a sterling job even if she didn’t always get it quite right!
We were sorry that, for personal reasons, a few of our regular supporters were unable to join us. We send you all our best wishes and we look forward to seeing you at our next quiz – who knows, maybe a Spooky Halloween happening, but that’s a long way off. We have a long hot summer of bowls to look forward to before then!
And just to put a finishing touch to the evening, we serenaded Ron, not with a love song but with a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday to mark his 77th on Tuesday. Nice one, Ron!
