At the Midsomer Norton Cricket Club AGM earlier this month, first team skipper, Nick Potter, reported on the club’s performance in the Bristol and Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League in 2015.
After the highs and lows of 2014, the 2015 season failed to live up to expectations. League reorganisation means that the club’s first team will be facing plenty of new opposition in 2016 in a reorganised Bristol/North Somerset Division. The skipper hopes that the club can compete for promotion at the same time as introducing some of the club’s talented younger players to first team cricket.
Elsewhere on the field of play in 2015, the Sunday Second XI secured promotion with a young side that augurs well for the future of the club. Youth Co-ordinator, Steve Cox, had already notified the club of his intention to stand down in 2016. The senior team captains thanked Steve for all his efforts in managing and promoting youth cricket at the club. Robin Cray and Paul Justin will look after youth team cricket at the club from now on.
All the team captains thanked the scorers, the tea/refreshment providers and others for their contributions to the club in 2015. The hard work of Phil Mortimer and Mike Ashwin in preparing the pitches was recognised and appreciated by all.
In 2016, Nick Potter will continue to lead the 1st XI. Dan Cox will take charge of the 2nd XI and Robin Cray will skipper the Third XI. Morgan Skipp will captain the Sunday side.
Alan Elkington will continue as club Secretary. Members thanked him for all his work in the year just completed and members also thanked the Social Committee for all their hard work.Preparations for next season will start early in the New Year. New players of all abilities are always welcome at the club. For more information, please contact Phil Mortimer: 01761 413725, email: [email protected]Charlie Matthews
