MIDSOMER Norton Methodists entertained Bristol Sri Lankans 2nd XI at Norton Hill, the visitors having just edged their first encounter back in May.

Bowling first, a second-ball catch gave the hosts a great start. But after a few circumspect overs, bundle of energy Weshan De Zoysa (42) began unleashing some attacking shots - running assertively between the wickets and pummelling anything loose to the rope.

Eventually his luck ran out - chipping a Daniel Shearn (3-28) delivery to a waiting fielder - but useful runs from Sachi Perera (26), Bisanda Panditharatne (17) and skipper Roshan Warnakulasuruya (15) helped the Sri Lankans reach 119-4.

Then a great few overs saw the fielding side back in charge - wickets for Darcey Robinson (3-25), Craig Eyles (2-34) and Charlotte Hazell (1-20) reducing the away team to 134-9 in the 32nd over. Innings almost done you would assume, but stylish left-handed number ten Charith Jayaratna (54*) had other ideas. He began stroking the ball to all parts as he and eleventh man Dhanushka Rodrigo (12*) added an improbable 76 runs, taking the visitors to a stunning final total of 210-9.

After the break, the shell-shocked Methodists' reply started brightly - David Baker and Mark Robinson putting on 24 in three overs. Having departed soon after, it was then down to Eyles (30) and skipper Stuart Green (18) to consolidate, adding 54 runs before the former was unfortunately run out.

A flurry of wickets for Suneth Hewage (3-27) and Asanka Anuradha (4-10) then did for the lower-order batters, the hosts collapsing from 96-4 to 104 all out in just seven overs - wrapping up a comfortable victory for the Bristol team.
