Somer Valley Sports FC held their annual Awards and Charity Night on Saturday 6th May, with players and supporters turning out to celebrate their successes this season, along with a cheque presentation to the club’s partner charity, Dorothy House Hospice Care.

Still a relatively young club, their rise through the Mid-Somerset Football League is earning increased recognition in the local area. With a third-place finish now confirmed, the team are set to be competing in the MSFL Division One next season, having started off just four seasons ago in the league’s Division Three.

Club Chairman and Co-Founder, Tim Wells, has been delighted with the success and growth of the club and is already looking towards preparations for next season. He said: “When we started the club four years ago, we wanted to offer a platform for players in the local area that had maybe dropped out of the sport to get back to playing, whilst also giving back to the community and local charities with various fundraising events throughout the season.

“After a lot of hard work, on and off the pitch, we are delighted at the prospect of competing in the First Division next season and also being able to present our chosen charity with a substantial donation.

“We have been lucky enough to recruit a top quality squad, but as always we are keen to add strength and depth to our squad in key positions; such as goal-keepers. Being community focussed and player-run, we have developed a great spirit in the club and it’s a great reward to see the team now competing in Cup Finals and challenging the top teams.

“Alongside player recruitment, we are always on the lookout for opportunities to grow the club and move it forward, so would gratefully receive any contact from local businesses interested in linking up with our club through sponsorship opportunities.”
