OLDLAND Abbotonains struck an injury-time winner in a 2-1 away victory over Welton Rovers in the first division of the Jewson Western League, writes Bob Allard .

Welton had begun the game with purpose. Ben Wych forcing visiting goalkeeper Tyler Smith into an early save, while debutant Oleksandr Yakymchuk impressed at the other end by reacting sharply to keep out a deflected effort from Ashley Thomas.

Wych went close again with a shot that flashed narrowly wide, and Ben Bament headed off target as both sides traded chances in an energetic opening spell. Thomas remained a threat for Oldlands, rising well at the far post to direct a header goalwards, only for Yakymchuk to tip the effort onto the bar.

Welton carved out a clear opportunity just before the interval when Harley Prior broke through the defence, but his strike went straight at Smith.

Oldlands made the breakthrough just minutes into the second half with a scrappy goal. Yakymchuk blocked the initial shot with his knee, the ball ricocheted around the six‑yard box, and Welton were unable to clear. Thomas reacted quickest, scuffing a looping effort that curled over a defender and crept into the net.

Welton responded positively. Substitute Bryan Moding forced Smith into a low save, and young defender Gio Angeletta produced an outstanding last‑ditch tackle to deny Giuseppe La Porta. Their persistence was rewarded in the 75th minute when Wych picked out captain Will Ford who struck a crisp volley beyond Smith.

Welton pressed hard for a winner. Substitute Ethan Murehwa unleashed a powerful drive that Smith did well to turn away at the far post. But in added time, Oldlands won a corner. The delivery caused chaos in the six‑yard box, the ball looped upwards, and Cash Vinall reacted first to head home. Almost immediately, Oldlands’ substitute Dexter Griffin struck a post.
