WELTON Rovers endured another 90 minutes of football in the first division of the Jewson Western League, going down 6-1 away to Warminster Town, despite producing one of their finest goals in recent memory, writes Bob Allard.

With only 12 players available, the visitors worked tirelessly throughout but were ultimately overpowered by the hosts’ sustained attacking pressure.

Warminster began on the front foot, with Jake Wright sending an early effort wide. Welton responded positively as Brian Moding and Oliver Tucker pressed the home defence, but the breakthrough came after six minutes when Charlie Walton raced down the right and drove his shot high past Jude Brown.

Welton’s equaliser on 21 minutes was a moment of real quality. Chris Pile surged forward and delivered an excellent cross to Tucker, who met it first time with a thunderous volley into the top corner — a superb finish that briefly levelled the contest.

Warminster restored their advantage on the half hour when Paul Braithwaite advanced from halfway and his low strike took a heavy deflection, leaving Brown helpless.

The Welton keeper then produced a fine save to deny George Walker‑Mayne, but the hosts added a third just before the interval as Walton curled an unstoppable free‑kick from the edge of the area.

The second half opened with chances at both ends. Martin Johnson lifted a close‑range effort over the bar, while a free‑kick from Moding drifted narrowly wide.

Ten minutes after the restart, Warminster extended their lead when Brown spilled Braithwaite’s shot and Wright reacted quickest to prod home.

A minute later, Walker‑Mayne finished off a flowing move that sliced through the Welton defence to make it 5–1. As fatigue set in, Warminster continued to press, and Walton completed his hat‑trick in the closing stages — weaving past two tired challenges before driving the ball into the net.
