Farrington Park junior, Jackson Carey and experienced Shane Phelps scored 43 points to retain the Generation Trophy, an American Greensomes competition in which a junior and an adult team up.

Autumn sunshine and a stiff breeze greeted the twenty golfers for the annual competition and the majority of the field totalled more than 36 points, with two teams carding Eagle Threes. It was clear that there is exceptional talent coming through the junior ranks, and the future bodes well for the junior section.

Runners-up junior, Abby Gray and Mark Wintersgill shot 41 points to finish one clear of junior, Alex Marshall and Claire Salter.

Dave Swain carded 82–68 to win Division One of the Men’s Saturday Medal, followed by Alex Bendall, 79–70, with Mark Crook third, 80–71. Fireworks King, Denis Glover, won Division Two on 92–74, followed by Gary Payne, 99–75, and Pierce O’Shea, 91–75.

For the Seniors, Barry Hall won the singles summer knockout competition on the Duchy course, while Roger Stone was victorious on the Manor course. Rob Thain and Ken Hutton were the Duchy course pairs champions.

A glorious sunny day greeted the early starters for the Bowmaker competition, won by Steve Symonds, Philip Michael and Richard Collier with 85 points. Barry Hall, Chris Liberty and Hugo Pike were second on 84, followed by Mike Bradbury, Jim Farmer and ghost card on the same score, Bill Sims, Steve Mitchell and Mo Duery on 82 with Fred Grist, Bob Baker and Roger Stone also on 82. Nearest the pins on fifth, Tim Waller, eighth, Garth Pusey, fourteenth, Bill Sims and fifteenth, Mike Rawlings.

In the final friendly match of the season and the last ever against Woodspring, Farrington Park Seniors ran out winners, 6–1.

Jackie and Martin Walker with a gross of 85 retained the Romaine Punchbowl Foursomes Medal with a gross 85.

The event starts the new mixed golfing season and was played in cold but dry conditions. Founder members, Peta and Charles Romaine put forward the trophy for the annual competition and give vouchers for a skill prize, won by Gail Proctor and Shane Phelps, for the nearest the pin in three on the eighteenth. They also finished second in the gross competition. Terri and Pierce O’Shea won the consolation stableford prize.

The next Mixed is the Sanders Challenge trophy on November 6th, a Chinese Greensomes. There will also be a Christmas fun competition, a Two Ball Texas Scramble in December.
