The Met Office has declared that May has been one of the wettest months since 1967 and the Farrington Park Ladies section can certainly vouch for that; despite the conditions they have battled through the wind and rain with only the Betty Beadle Bake competition being abandoned in appalling weather.

Eleven ladies took part in the Woodward Winner 70 + Ladies Championship.

Margaret Seery came first with nett 77, Debbie Jones was second, with nett 79 and Bridget Rylance took third place with nett 81.

The Dickinson Cup Qualifier Medal competition for ladies with a handicap of up to 20.4 was won by Maureen Charlton, with a nett 74. Maureen will now go forward to represent Farrington Park in the Dickinson Cup competition later in the season.

The Barlow Cup qualifying competition days could not have been more different; the Saturday was warm, sunny and breezy but the following Thursday’s weather was akin to a monsoon and most competitors abandoned their rounds after nine holes as they were soaked to the bone. This County Competition is for ladies with a handicap of 20.5 and above. Amazingly, the best round of the day and Farrington Park representative in the next round of the Barlow Cup came from Sue Skyrme. Sue and her playing partners played through the torrential rain and her score of 25 points was the best of the day, proving the old adage “never give up”.
