Farrington Park Seniors have appointed David Elliott as their new Captain for the forthcoming 12 months.
At their recent AGM, outgoing Captain, Mike Henton, reported that only one match had been lost to rain last season and wished David the best of luck with the weather! The Seniors remained unbeaten at home during last season and won the Age Concern Regional Final against Minehead. He went on to express his thanks to the committee for their support during his period of captaincy.
The incoming captain thanked Mike for his successful year and was committed to working hard with his new committee with the support of his Vice Captain, Phil Thompson. With a new captain comes new ideas and it is proposed more social events will be organised that involve members’ wives and partners.
The first two friendly matches of the season are due to be played at the end of March and teams will be selected with at least ten days’ notice. Team members are reminded that home matches will start at the earlier time of 11 a.m.
Ladies
Sunshine again for Ladies morning, whatever next! 37 ladies arrived at the club for a ‘Blind Date’, a fun competition organised by the Ladies Captain.
All the players go out and play an individual Stableford round, playing their best golf, everyone hopes, as the ladies will only know their playing partner when they get in the clubhouse and the draw for partners is made!
Bobby Appleby, Ladies Captain, reminded the ladies about the annual matches against the Senior men at the beginning of March, on both courses. Also to collect their new handicap certificates after the annual Handicap Review, a few ladies handicaps were cut.
Some very good scores were produced, particularly by Sandra Hares who had 27 points from 13 holes. There was also four 2 spots by Maureen Charlton, Lena Warren, Gail Proctor and June Symonds.
Bobby, with help from Liz Thomas, who is recovering from an injury, drew the players from the pot with some interesting pairings. In fifth place were Peta Romaine and Tracy Grist. Fourth were Lesley Stone and Jenny Howarth. Third were Peggy Edwards and Sue Stilwell on countback from Lena Warren and Laura Fox and in first place were Jackie Walker and Sue Forshaw. Congratulations to all.
Next Thursday is the last of the Winter Fun Competitions, an American Greensomes, let’s hope the sun is shining again!
