With the weather breaking for the first time in many weeks, it is remarkable how a few hours of rain can completely transform the golf course.
On the positive side, with the grass beginning to grow again, the fairways are looking like fairways, and not like something from the Australian outback. However, on the negative side, no more emulating Rory, running in a seven iron 200-odd yards! Never mind, global warming is here, see you again next year.

It was a day of mixed fortunes for the Ladies in the August medal competition. The perfect weather – warm, but a lower temperature than of late and a light wind – tempted a good field of 46 to pit their golf game against the course. The greens were playing fast and were in beautiful condition.
The fairways were hard, as the grass had been burnt to a crisp in the recent hot weather. This led to some interesting, and not always helpful, bounces of the ball when it landed on them. There were quite a few “cricket scores” on some holes, but eight birdies were also recorded, including two spot birdies by Sandra Hares and Terri O’Shea on the par-three 5th hole.
Terri O’Shea won Division One in a round which included one birdie and ten pars. Eight pars helped Pat Roscow win Division Two, and Jane Richardson won Division Three with two pars in her round. All three Ladies received handicap reductions.
