After a long period out of action, Bob Smith marked his welcome return with success in the June medal in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club.
His nett 64 was enough to beat John Bendle and Phil Moody by one shot. Bendle claimed second place on countback, but there was ample consolation for Moody who won the Rod Bruce Scratch Trophy with the best gross score of 76.
The Seniors won their latest social match at home to Kingweston 3.5 – 2.5, but after losing 4-2 away to their opponents earlier in the season, were forced to hand over the FosseKing Trophy. Allen Cheney and Gerry Rowell won their game 3&2, Bendle and George Underwood triumphed 2&1 and Mike Ricketts and Graham Edgell were 3&1 winners. Skipper John Appleton and Malcolm Tucker halved their game, but there were defeats for Smith and Cyril Blacker who lost 3&1 and Pat Cray and Terry Button who finished two down.
