The Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club celebrated another enjoyable season with a Presentation Lunch at the Centurion Hotel, Midsomer Norton.

Captain, John Appleton, who is continuing in office for the next year, reflected on a season in which the Seniors’ section had once again experienced an imbalance of results in their social matches. At home they won seven of their eleven matches, but away from home, had just two halved matches to show for their efforts. Despite a narrow defeat, he felt the highlight of the year had been the performance away to Cricket St Thomas. Appleton thanked the ladies’ committee members, players who had supported the social matches and competition organisers and paid tribute to Gerry Rowell and Terry Button, who organised a successful Seniors’ open. The away day and Puttsomes had both gone well. George Bidmead and the team were thanked for their efforts in trying to keep the course in good condition throughout the year.

The Player of the Year and recipient of the Roger Tabb Trophy, Pat Cray, had an outstanding season. John Waters, another multiple winner, was Club Champion after winning the Rupert Moore Cup and Bob Smith won the Winter League Shield. Appleton captured his own Captain’s Trophy, as well as winning the Seniors’ Open and the Rod Bruce Trophy. Another player to collect a host of trophies was John Bendle, who played arguably the round of the season with a nett 55 in the July medal competition.
