The Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club again suffered from away day blues in their recent social matches, with defeats at Cricket St Thomas, Woodspring and Brean.
Less than a week after beating Cricket St Thomas 5-1 on their own course, Fosseway endured a similar reversal in the return fixture.
Brian Woodruff and John Smart were the only victors, winning convincingly 5&3, but there were some close encounters with Nick Foxwell and Cyril Blacker and Alan Vowell and Doug Lane only one-down at the end. Captain, Gerry Rowell and Alan White and Mike Weeks and Martin Cuer were beaten 2&1, while Mike Ricketts and Pat Cray lost 7&6.
A visit to Woodspring in Bristol resulted in another 5-1 defeat. Rowell and Lane and Blacker and Woodruff managed a half each, but losses elsewhere saw Woodspring complete a season’s double. The unsuccessful pairings were Cuer and Terry Button, Ricketts and Alan Jones, Weeks and Foxwell and the Curtis brothers Reg and Jack.
The visit to Brean saw Fosseway able to enjoy the facilities offered by the home’s side’s excellent new clubhouse, but in the first leg of the FosseBrean Trophy, Fosseway were beaten 4-2.
Jones and Ricketts were the star performers winning 6&5, and Woodruff and Weeks finished one-up. Rowell and Smart lost 3&1 and Blacker and Howard Nowell ended two-down, but it was a tough day for the Curtis brothers, who lost 6&5, and Cuer and George Underwood, who were beaten 7&5.
