The final home match of the season saw the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club defeat Brean, 4-2, but it was not enough to win back the FosseBrean Trophy.
Having beaten Fosseway by the same margin in the earlier fixture, Brean retained the trophy as they were successful last year.
Captain, Gerry Rowell, and Malcolm Tucker won the first game 4&3, and there was a similar outcome for Alan White and Graham Edgell, while Secretary, Alan Jones, and late replacement, George Underwood, were even more convincing, triumphing 6&4. Vice-Captain, Martyn Cuer, and Nick Foxwell, along with Doug Lane and John Smart all achieved halves, but there was a narrow defeat for Howard Nowell and Mike Weeks, who lost 2&1.
One of Fosseway’s recent acquisitions, Chris Shellard, was the clear winner of the July medal event with a nett-56. Cyril Blacker produced one of his best rounds to finish second on 59, while Lane was third with a nett-62. Cuer claimed the Rod Bruce Scratch Trophy with a gross-82.
Paul Davies – who has just joined Fosseway following the sad closure of Shortwood Lodge – made an early impact, pairing up with Jones to win the Groundsman’s Trophy with 42 Stableford points. Lane and Shellard continued their good run coming second with 38 points, while Smart and John Waters were third on 36. Malcolm Tucker
