Aimee Sawyer from Mendip Golf Club is one step closer to a round of a lifetime with a European Tour star after beating thousands of amateur golfers across England to make the final stage of the Bridgestone Chase Your Dream trophy.

The 24-year-old kept alive her dream of a place in the pro-am of the British Masters supported by Sky Sports by qualifying from England Golf Week at Frilford Heath Golf – being one of just nine finalists to do so from a field of sixty.

The competition began way back in the spring, and ever since a host of regional events took place, Aimee has been on a journey with Bridgestone to the top of the sport.

Aimee is now only one round away from once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, playing with a professional at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports at Walton Heath in October, but must first be a part of the winning team in the Bridgestone Challenge.

The Chase Your Dream Trophy continues to capture the imaginations of thousands of amateur golfers in clubs affiliated to England Golf, just as it did in its inaugural year twelve months ago.

In 2017, the three overall winners partnered Ryder Cup hero Nicolas Colsaerts at the pro-am of the British Masters supported by Sky Sports at Close House.

Aimee Sawyer, who scored a net-73 on the Oxfordshire course, overcame a back injury around eighteen months ago to qualify. She said: “I’ve had to completely adapt my game to suit my injury. It’s completely changed my swing and, although I struggled initially, I feel I’m stronger than I’ve ever been.”

Nerves were playing a big part prior to Aimee heading to the first tee: “I really suffer with my nerves and I get quite panicky. I’m proud that I’ve conquered those and proved that I can do anything I want.

“The message now is ‘Don’t stop, keep striving and stay focused until the end of each and every round of golf I play.’ I never expected to do this well, but I’m excited for the next stage now. I’ll keep replaying that eagle on the sixth though!”

Bridgestone’s Consumer Sales and Marketing Director, Farrell Dolan, said: “Aimee has done fantastically to qualify for the next round against a strong field of golfers from across the country. She’ll continue to chase her dream of playing at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports.

“Our Chase Your Dream Trophy has captured the imaginations of many, many golfers. We’re now only one step away from the British Masters and nine amateur golfers are continuing to live their dreams – including Aimee.
