HUSBAND and wife team Graham and Dilys Edgell lifted the Joe Hawkins Cup for the second time when the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club held its annual mixed puttsomes competition.

This is the event when the men play all the shots to the green and the ladies do the putting. The Edgells recorded a nett score of 34 from their nine holes, Pat and Lauren Cray were second on 36.5 with Andy Flagg and Chloe third with a nett 38.

Gerry Rowell won the prize for the leading men’s score with Allen Cheney’s partner Diane winning the ladies’ prize.

Meanwhile, the sun again shone for the Seniors’ annual away day, this time to the Isle of Wedmore and it was a day to remember for Steve Brixey who blitzed the field with an outstanding score of 44 points. Rowell came in second place with 39 points with Paul Ellis a further point back in third place.

Anthony Gregory won the prize for nearest the pin while Rob Wells was the only player to achieve a two. Many thanks again go to Paul Trigg for organising another successful outing.

With a free Thursday on the calendar Competition secretary Chris Appleton arranged a pairs Texas Scramble and it produced some excellent results. In a really close finish Malcolm Emery and Shaun Goodwin won the event with a nett 56. Just one shot behind came Flagg and Phil Winsley and Steve and Pauline Brixey with the former pair claiming second place on countback.

Finally, the seniors were sorry to hear that one of its most popular members , George Thurston, was in the burns unit at Southmead Hospital and had undergone skin graft surgery. Everyone from the club wishes him a speedy recovery.
