EARLIER in the year, two young Juniors, 11 year old Harper Howerd, son of Mendip Golf Club member Chris Howerd and grandson of Carol, and 12 year old Lauren Morris, daughter of bar & catering manager Steve Morris, won the 4bbb Ping qualifying event, thus progressing to represent Mendip in the Finals.

This took place at Thonock Park in Lincolnshire where the top 52 pairs, from an initial 5,500 pairs who participated around the country, took part. They had a great day out and were very spoilt with gifts and prizes for making the final.

They scored 40 points which placed them in 18th place overall, an excellent achievement and a great life experience. Harper also won the nearest the 100 yard post , this competition taking place in the Official Ping Fitting Centre which is based at the Thonock Park Club. Very well done Harper and Lauren.

The Ladies Daily Mail Qualifying Foursomes event saw a win for Jennifer Ahlberg and Linda Papadopoullos with 35 points, with Maureen Charlton & Pauline Young 2nd with 33 after count back from Margaret Allen & Lulu Carolan, with Vi Hayes & Penny Oliver in 4th spot with 31.

The Seniors entertained Wedmore and ran out 5½-½ winners with points gained by Ken Langridge/Mike Tout, Paul Wood/John Brooksbank, Selwyn Rees/Alan Edwards, Steve Regler/Mike Snaith and Martin Russell/Norman Squire and with the half coming from team captain Paul Godwin/John Scott.

In the last home game of the season the Seniors beat `Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club in a very close run affair, 3.5-2.5. Wins came from Paul Wood/Darrin Vowell, Keith Beasley/Paul Morgan and Steve Regler/Phil Brocks with the valuable half being gained by Paul Godwin/Phil Bassett.
